Aside from a slight decrease in the late 90s owing to the effects of the provincial government’s pre-retirement program, the number general practitioners and family physicians has increased significantly over the last few years. Because of the growth in health care needs, government health care priorities, and because the labour pool is too small, their number should rise significantly in the next few years.
