REGINA _ The Saskatchewan government said it will not tell municipalities what they can or can’t do to attract doctors , no matter if communities have to compete with each other.

The Health Minister Mr. McMorris says he’s aware some communities are getting frustrated when they try to recruit doctors and end up in competition with the province for more of a lucrative environment.

Freebies like housing, cars and financial bonuses, etc. are offered but not every community does this.

The province won’t get involved when communities bid for physicians, whether industry or business.

The minister wishes a tentative contract with the Saskatchewan Medical Association (SMA) will address some of the discrepancies that some parts of rural Saskatchewan feel.

Physicians, under the new program, stand to gain $33 million in special programs to reward themselves for things such as rural practice.
