Horizon Health Network is currently seeking an Anesthesiologist in Saint John, New Brunswick. The department provides anesthesia services at two sites in the city. The Saint John Regional Hospital (400 University Avenue, Saint John, New Brunswick E2L 4L4) is a tertiary care facility and a designated Level I trauma centre and serves as the provincial referral centre for cardiac surgery. All major surgical specialties including obstetrics are provided. There is an active acute pain service and chronic pain clinic. The department also provides services at St Joseph’s Hospital (130 Bayard Drive, Saint John, New Brunswick E2L 3L6) which is a day surgery facility.
The Department of Anesthesiology consists of 18 anesthesiologists practising in a collegial group. We are presently seeking a compatible anesthesiologist with cardiac anesthesia training to join our department. Applicants would be expected to have fellowship training in cardiac anesthesia and certification in perioperative trans-esophageal echocardiography. The New Brunswick Heart Centre located in Saint John, is the sole tertiary cardiac care program in the province of New Brunswick. It has an annual cardiac surgery volume of approximately 800 cases, including standard revascularization (CABG) and valve procedures as well as complex and minimally invasive mitral and aortic valve surgery. There is an active multidisciplinary Transcatheter Aortic Valve (TAVI) program. In addition to cardiac anesthesia the successful applicant would provide general operating room anesthesia services and share in the on-call schedule.
The department is affiliated with the Dalhousie University Faculty of Medicine. The department participates in the Dalhousie University Anesthesia Residency Training Program. Involvement in undergraduate medical education is possible through the Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick Program.
Applicants must be eligible for licensure in the Province of New Brunswick and should hold specialty certification in Anesthesia from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons. Fluency in English and French would be desirable. This is a permanent full-time Fee-for-Service position. Locum positions of one (1) year or greater will be considered.
